The Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of UIN Mataram is hosting the 3rd International Conference on Gender, Children, and Social Inclusion (Gensia) on October 16, 2024. The conference will focus on the theme “Interdisciplinary Studies on Contemporary Women’s and Children’s Issues for Social Transformation.” Esteemed representatives from the LP2M and the Centre for Gender and Child Studies from 58 public Islamic higher education institutions across Indonesia will be in attendance. Furthermore, 66 out of 194 articles, accounting for 34%, have been selected for presentation at the conference.

Dr. Jan A. Ali is a distinguished religious sociologist specializing in Islam. He holds a joint appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Islam and Modernity in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and as the Community and Research Analyst in the Religion and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University. He is the Founding Convenor of the WSU Postgraduate Islamic Studies Network. His sociological approach is a significant contribution to contemporary Islamic studies, which are often dominated by normative approaches. At the conference, he will deliver a compelling speech on Sex Differences in Islam and Their Social Consequences.

Prof. Farish A. Noor is a distinguished Malaysian academician, historian, and political scientist. He currently holds the position of professor of Politics and Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University of Indonesia. His areas of expertise encompass a wide range of subjects including history, transnational religio-political movements, religio-politics in South and Southeast Asia, political-religious revivalism, as well as history and antiques. He will present Feminism and Women’s Studies as an Essential Component in The Study of Contemporary Islam.

Siti Nurjanah, M.A. serves as the executive director of the Women Learning Partnership (WLP) and the Women and Youth Development Institute of Indonesia (WYDII). Based in Surabaya, she is an esteemed activist and researcher. Nurjanah is known for her work in training women in district assemblies, engaging with women activists and grassroots youth, and creating and implementing assessments focused on women’s political participation. Her research on women’s issues and political participation in Indonesia is widely recognized. She will deliver a presentation on “Gender Justice Through Human Rights: Deploying Indonesia’s Cultural Assets.”

Professor Dr. H. Masnun M.Ag., the rector of UIN Mataram, extends a warm welcome to three esteemed speakers who have gained international recognition in the field of Islamic studies and gender issues. He wholeheartedly supports the Gensia conference, emphasizing its potential to offer valuable insights into contemporary gender and children’s issues, thereby contributing to the advancement of social transformation.
